Vivo IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has lauded his boys for making a strong comeback after a disappointing show in the previous season of the IPL. CSK with the win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) last night became the first team to qualify for the Vivo IPL 2021 with nine wins from 11 matches.
The three times title winners had a horrible outing in the thirteenth season of the IPL where they were the first team to get eliminated from the playoff race. The franchise had several issues to work with after the season and the franchise made amends to all the flaws and covered its base with a few quality signings in the IPL 2021.
The franchise made a strong turnaround and the skipper has credited his players and support staff for sticking to the basic rules and making the comeback possible.
Dhoni, speaking in the post-match presentation after handing over an easy six-wicket defeat to SRH, last night, said, “It means a lot because the last time in the post-match presentation I had, I said we want to come back strong… You keep learning out of it, and that is what we have done this year even though we played the first half [of the season] earlier. Every credit must be given to the players and the support staff.”
The Chennai based franchise was right on the money from the start of the IPL 2021 in India. The franchise chipped in nicely to make sure they remain in the top two places in the points table.
The abrupt suspension would have definitely put them on the backfoot, especially, when they had the horrible outing in the UAE last year, however, the franchise managed to leave the horrors of the past behind and started from where they left off in phase one in India.
“You won’t always win games and a lot didn’t go our way last time, and it’s important not to make excuses and we have done that this year,” MS Dhoni said after the match against SRH.
“The boys did well to keep the momentum going, and they’ve taken responsibilities to keep all departments of the game in balance so the players and the support staff get the credit,” MS Dhoni added.
