MS Dhoni’s Jersey Number 7 Retired From Indian Cricket By BCCI, No New Young Player Can Use This Number: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a historic move as they announced the retirement of MS Dhoni’s iconic jersey number “7” from the Indian Cricket. This Decision is undoubtedly symbolic and carries profound significance for fans and players alike.

Three years ago, Captain Cool MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket and now his jersey number will not be available to any players in the national team. BCCI took this move in tribute to MS Dhoni’s contribution to the cricket for the Indian Team as a World Cup winning captain and legendary player.

In 2017, BCCI retired the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s Jersey Number 10 from the Indian Cricket and since then no one has worn his jersey in the national team. Now, Two Legendary players MS Dhoni (7) and Sachin Tendulkar (10) are not available for the player in the national team.

Captain Cool MS Dhoni’s Legacy in Indian Cricket:

MS Dhoni has contributed a lot to the Team during his tenure as a captain of the Indian Team including the trophy of ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2011, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 and Asia Cup 2016 and 2010. The Jersey Number of a player becomes a symbol of the player’s Identity and legacy, which they earned throughout their cricketing career.

The Two Active players Virat Kohli’s Jersey Number 18 and Rohit Sharma’s Jersey Number 45 are currently the two of the most popular jersey numbers among cricket fans. When these players retire from international cricket in all formats then BCCI might retire their jersey numbers too.

As per the media reports, Many Young players especially debutant has been informed by the BCCI to not select Jersey Number 7 and 10. ICC allow the player to select from Number 1 to 100 as their Jersey Number but in the Indian Team, more than 60 numbers are currently assigned to the active players.

This led Young Players to have the option of around 30 numbers and as per the BCCI officials if any player is out of the Indian Team for one year still his jersey number will not given away.
