TOSS and Team Updates

Meg Lanning had the coin in her hand, and Harmanpreet Kaur couldn't make the right call. The happy face of Meg Lanning told a lot about the value of winning an important toss. She was very happy to case the target with just one change in the starting 11. Harman also wanted to bowl first and had one change–Ishaque came in for Kalita.

Delhi Capitals Playing11: Meg Lanning (c), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp, Jess Jonassen, Sarah Bryce (wk), Niki Prasad, Shikha Pandey, Minnu Mani, Nallapureddy Charani

Mumbai Indians Playing11: Yastika Bhatia (wk), Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Sajeevan Sajana, Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, G Kamalini, Sanskriti Gupta, Shabnim Ismail, Saika Ishaque

Mumbai Indians Innings- 149/7 (20 Overs)

Delhi Capitals bowlers were gold at the start with tight lines and gun fielding. Shikha Pandey and Marizanne Kapp gave just 15 runs in the first five overs and removed both openers for very cheap. Nat Sciver and Harmanpreet Kaur then played with a cautious approach to rebuild the innings. They stitched an amazing 89-run stand, with Harmanpreet Kaur taking most of the runs.

The uncapped left-arm spinner Charani broke the partnership with the wicket of Nat Sciver and it was a blinder take by Minnu Mani at the short mid-wicket. This wicket in the 15th over and two more wickets in the 16th over by Jess Jonassen broke the back of Mumbai's fightback. However, Harman was trying everything possible from the other end, but a slower one from Sutherland removed her.

Small but important cameos from Kamalini, Amanjot, and Sanskriti helped MI to put up 149 after their 20 overs. There was some good help for spinners and the slower balls from the pacers were troubling the batters. The chase was going to be tricky!

Delhi Capitals Innings-  (20 Overs)

DC bowlers were disciplined, but Mumbai had an evenly experienced and disciplined attack. Mumbai Indians also removed Meg and Shafali under three overs and restricted DC to just 37 runs in the powerplay. Just after the powerplay, DC lost their in-form batter Jess Jonassen, and Mumbai was in the driving seat. Annabell Sutherland followed her in the next over.

Jamimah opted for a counterattack, but after a crucial quick knock of 30 runs from 20 balls, Amelia Kerr got her leading edge. DC was half-side down with just 66 runs on the board. They needed another 84 runs from 9 overs to lift the trophy.

Marizanne Kapp was on the crease, and she did show intent. A miscommunication between Sarah Bryce, and Kapp ended up with the loss of Bryce's wicket. Adapting to the condition, Niki Prasad and Kapp reduced the margin. The equation was 35 needed from 24 balls.

Ismail bowled an excellent 17th over, and the pressure on DC resulted in the departure of Kapp, the lone hope of Delhi Capitals. Next ball, Nat Sciver got Shikha Pandey as well, and it was one hand on the trophy. Niki Prasad tried to keep DC's hope alive with a six in the penultimate over and the equation was 14 required in the last over.

The experience of Nat Sciver paid off, and Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 runs. MUMBAI INDIANS are the Champions again!!
