IPL 2022 to begin on March 27:

The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to begin on March 27. Meanwhile the final will be held on May 29, Sunday.

The final decision on the IPL venues and dates will be taken tomorrow in the IPL Governing Council meeting.

With the addition of the two new teams in the IPL, the format is also changed. Lucknow SuperGiants and Gujarat Titans have been added to the existing pool of eight IPL franchises.

With a new format put in place, each team will play 14 games each. Teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each. Each side will play twice with the teams of its group. After completing 8 matches inside its group, the teams will clash with the teams of another group.

With the second group, teams will play once against the four opponents while twice with the fifth opponent to complete its 14 group stage games.

For the playoffs, all the teams will be regrouped and ranked according to their total points and net run rate. The top four sides will head to the playoffs.

The playoffs will be held in the same manner, as they used to be in the past. The top two sides will get an advantage due to their good performance on the league stage.

The top two sides will play Qualifier 1. The winner of the clash will straight away head to the final, while the loser will play the Qualifier2.

The second playoff match will be between team number three and four. The winner will then play against the loser of Qualifier 1. The winner will then head to the final and complete with the other side that has already reached the final.
