New Captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Aakash Chopra suggests Jason Holder: Royal Challengers Bangalore, exactly around a year ago, had the most stable skipper in their team. Virat Kohli, the captain of RCB, was certain to lead the franchise for roughly three more years, looking at his fitness levels. However, the abrupt call of Kohli to step down from RCB leadership has put the franchise under immense pressure to appoint the new skipper for the team ahead of the Tata IPL 2022.

Virat Kohli stepped down from RCB’s leadership post the conclusion of the Vivo IPL 2021 in the UAE. The cricketer announced his decision midway through the tournament, days after relinquishing his T20I leadership for team India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled 12th and 13th February as the two dates to conduct the IPL 2022 Mega Auction where each IPL franchise would try to build a strong squad for years to come around the core retained players.

Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator, Aakash Chopra reckons the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) should purchase the likes of Jason Holder during the IPL 2022 Mega Auction and name him the leader of the pack.

Elaborating his call to announce Holder as the captain of the side, Chopra stated that the Caribbean all-rounder would silently remain in the background while leading his side skilfully.

“Let me just throw in Jason Holder. Bengaluru has small boundaries, he is an all-rounder, a medium pacer. He is an unassuming character. He doesn’t impose himself, he stays in the background, quietly does his job. I think for a franchise like RCB, he can be the right pick,” said Chopra while interacting on his official YouTube channel.

Moreover, Jason Holder possesses extensive experience in leading the West Indies in all three formats of the game. Also, he is an all-rounder who would simply play a critical role in managing the balance of the team for the RCB.

“He is an all-rounder, he will play all the matches. He has captained West Indies well. He will not take the center stage. When there is Virat Kohli in the team, there should be a captain who should not be looking for the limelight. He should be happy basking in somebody else’s glory also because Kohli is that towering figure,” Chopra said.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the recent player retentions, overlooked the likes of Jason Holder and released him from the team. He is now a free agent and can be picked by any of the franchises for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
