No explanation on why I was sacked from the captaincy of SRH: David Warner.
Vivo IPL 2021: David Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s former captain, has revealed that the SRH management hasn’t given him proper explanations on why he was removed from the captainship duties midway through the fourteenth season of the IPL.
In a recent conversation with Sports Today, Warner expressed his disappointment towards the franchise which ignored all his past contributions over just a couple of bad matches in the IPL 2021. The Australian cricketer marked that there are some ‘unanswered questions’ in his mind which are never going to be answered.
“The only disappointing thing for me was not being explained why I was dropped as captain,” said Warner in his recent interaction with Sports Today.
He further said that his past eight year’s performance for SRH didn’t come to rescue his case when he wasn’t in his best touch in the IPL 2021.
“If you want to go along the lines of form, it is a difficult one because, I guess whatever you have done in the past would have some weight moving forward, you would think. Especially when you have played about 100 games for the franchise, I think I had four bad games in those first five matches in Chennai. It is difficult, a tough pill to swallow. There are still questions to which I think I’ll never get answers, but you have to move on.”
Warner penned down emotional note for his fans:
The southpaw also spoke about his emotional messages on social media. Warner, through his emotional social media posts, indicated that he is unlikely to be associated with the SRH, even before the official confirmation from the franchise.
He said that he got the feeling that he is highly unlikely to be retained by Hyderabad in the coming mega auction and hence he thought that was the right time to thank his fans.
“Sometimes, you get that feeling that you are not going to be retained with little signs that you can see around the group. From my perspective, I can see the writing was on the wall and it was an appropriate time to say thank you. When you get on board with a new franchise, you don’t want to be posting too much about the competition so I felt it was the right time to say goodbye,” added Warner.
Warner controls the leaderboard in every format for SRH, be it highest run-getter, best average, most half-centuries or most hundreds. Even Warner is the only successful captain SRH had, who led the side to their only IPL title win in 2016.
In spite of all these mind-boggling achievements, Warner was sidelined by the team following a few poor matches. It is noteworthy that the appointment of Kane Williamson as the skipper of the side hasn’t done wonders for the team. Under Williamson, SRH endured their worst ever IPL season finishing in eighth place.
David Warner has, still, expressed his desire to play for SRH in the coming years, if the franchise decides to retain him. He said that he would be more than happy to feature for SRH again as the franchise has given him all the love and the fans have treated him equally.
“Hyderabad’s my second home, they have treated my family with great respect. Every time I have visited there, people want to give us hugs, speak to the kids and that is the most important thing to me in life. I am grateful for those memories and look forward to what’s going to happen in the future. I would love to be at SunRisers next year, but time will tell. I’d love to be part of the IPL in 2022, started my career with Delhi and then played with SunRisers. There are plenty of runs left in these legs so, I am looking forward to whatever opportunity presents itself.”
Even if, SRH doesn’t retain him, there will be several other teams who will fight to acquire the successful batsman in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The fans will definitely see David Warner playing in the IPL 2022, maybe for SRH or maybe for some other franchise, but the Australian will be in the league for sure.
