‘No Position Available’ said Justin Langer to Steve Smith’s captaincy ambitions.

Australian head coach Justin Langer shuts down all the chatter around Steve Smith getting Australia’s captaincy. Recently Smith revealed that he is in a good space to grab all the captaincy chances for Australia’s national side to which Langer responded that the team is in safe pair of hands right now.

Langer said Australia have two brilliant captains and the national side is in the safe hands of Aaron Finch (Limited overs skipper) and Tim Paine (Test Skipper).

“We have two very good captains and two important competitions coming up – an Ashes and a T20 World Cup. Our future looks good,” Langer told ABC.

“Despite the media chatter there is no captaincy position available,” he added.

Smith was earlier the skipper of Australia’s national side however he was removed from the position and banned from international cricket for one year after he and his mates were caught red-handed in the sandpaper scandal inside the stadium in Capetown back in March 2018. He was also handed a ban for taking any leadership role for two years.

After that shameful act in Australia cricket, Tim Paine was handed the Test captaincy while Aaron Finch was made the skipper of limited-overs format.

Steve Smith recently in an interview said, “I guess now I’ve got to a point where if the opportunity did come up again I would be keen.”

“If it was what Cricket Australia wanted and it was what was best for the team at the time, it’s certainly something I would be interested in.”

Smith will be in action in the upcoming IPL 2021 for Delhi Capitals. He was released from Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. He was picked by DC as a steal deal.
