Not Jasprit Bumrah or Shubman Gill! This youngster is all set to be India's next Test captain
Young India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set to be groomed as the next Test captain of India after Rohit Sharma. As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that Jasprit Bumrah's injury concerns and Shubman Gill's poor form have bothered selectors.
The India team is in the hunt for the new Test captain even though Rohit Sharma is still there. Ever since Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has ended, Rohit's future as a Test skipper has come under massive pressure and there have been reports that he is all set to be replaced in the role, especially with him going through poor form.
When Rohit Sharma dropped himself from the fifth Test, it was Jasprit Bumrah who took the leadership but got injured that match, which was the last match of the series. There have been a lot of speculations that he will be becoming the next Test captain, but his injury concerns are likely to work against him.
If Jasprit Bumrah becomes the Test captain then he will have to play all the games, which will surely make him injured. Hence, this has been the biggest talking point if he has been given the role of Test captaincy permanently.
A source close to BCCI said that selectors are looking for a more stable option because Jasprit Bumrah will always be in doubt. He mentioned that Shubman Gill was seen as a potential candidate, but his poor run of form has been a cause of concern.

The source added that Rishabh Pant is one of the strong candidates to be the Test captain but added that selectors are seeing Yashasvi Jaiswal as a potential leader in the team. Speaking to the Times of India, he said:
"Bumrah’s chances of a long Test series or completing a full season will always be in doubt. The selectors may want a more stable option. Gill has been seen as a captaincy prospect but his returns in Test cricket have been average. Rishabh Pant could also be a strong candidate and maybe someone like Yashashvi Jaiswal can be groomed for the role,"
The source also added that selectors are also having discussions related to the ODI captain. He mentioned that along with Shubman Gill, the name of Hardik Pandya is also being considered. He added:
"There have also been some discussions around Hardik Pandya being given the responsibility, given his experience,"
There have been reports that Rohit Sharma's future as the captain will be decided after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. If he doesn't have a good tournament then he is likely to be replaced.
