Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first. While batting, Sri Lanka scored 344 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. From the Sri Lankan team, both Kusal Mendis and wicketkeeper batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama scored a century. Mendis scored 122 runs in just 77 balls with the help of 14 fours and six sixes, while Samarawickrama scored 108 runs in 89 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes.
Hasan Ali took the most wickets in bowling action for Pakistan; he took four wickets while giving 78 runs in 10 overs. Haris Rauf got two wickets, while Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz, and Shadab Khan got one wicket each.
The score of 344 runs was never chased in the World Cup; as soon as the Pakistan team started to chase the runs, their two wickets had fallen for only 37 runs. Captain Babar Azam was out after scoring 10 runs, and opener batsman Imam-ul-Haq was out after scoring 12 runs. But then, thanks to Abdullah Shafique’s 113 runs in 103 balls and Mohammad Rizwan’s 131 runs, Pakistan chased the runs at the loss of four in just 48.2 overs.
After the victory against Sri Lanka, Pakistan has now come to second place in the ICC World Cup 2023 points table with four points. Babar Azam and Company defeated the Netherlands by 81 runs in the World Cup match. Pakistan’s match against India is on October 14.
