Punjab Kings(PBKS) 2023: During the IPL 2023 auction, Punjab Kings rewrote history by bidding a record INR 18.5 crore for English all-rounder Sam Curran, who was named Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup.
In an intense bidding war to get Curran, Punjab Kings competed against Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Kings eventually outbid CSK and MI, making Curran the most expensive player ever purchased at an IPL auction. Curran eclipsed the record set by former South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris, who was bought by RR for INR 16.25 crore at the IPL 2021 mini-auction.
After overspending on Curran, the Kings restrained themselves and only added five players, including all-rounder Sikandar Raza from Zimbabwe and Vidwath Kaverappa from Karnataka, who has drawn attention in the Indian domestic white-ball circuit.
Along with adding firepower to an already explosive batting lineup that includes compatriots Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, Curran will join the lethal speed duo of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh.
Shikhar Dhawan led- Punjab Kings targeted the all-rounders this year. Out of their 6 buys, 4 are all-rounders and they spent 19.40 Crores for all-rounders in this Auction.
