PBKS vs KKR: Low chases often become tricky! What an amazing bowling display by Punjab Kings where they defended 110 against a full-strength Kolkata Knight Riders. All the credit to the fielders and the Captain of Punjab Kings!
Definitely not something new for Punjab Kings to defend a low total. They have done it before but this was something exceptional. KKR needed just 40 runs and had 7 wickets in hand with batters like Andre Russell, Rinku Singh and Venky Iyer to come, but Punjab Kings took it all away from them in a blink of an eye.
Let's take a quick look at the match summary and the scorecard of the PBKS vs KKR match:
PBKS vs KKR Match Summary
Home captain Shreyas Iyer won the flip of the coin and he opted to bat first. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran got Punjab to a flying start with a 39-run partnership under 20 balls. Right then, Harshit Rana got Arya and skipper Iyer's wicket in one over. KKR didn't allow Punjab Kings to breathe ever after and successfully picked up wickets in regular intervals.
Harshit Rana got three, Varun and Narine clicked two, and Arora and Nortje booked one wicket each. Xavier Bartlett and Shashank Singh added crucial runs towards the end and took PBKS to 110. 111 against KKR was never going to be enough but Punjab Kings have done it before.
Small chases often become tricky and KKR didn't get the start they would have wanted. They lost both their openers for just 7 runs. Bartlett got his first IPL wicket in the only second ball in the tournament. Skipper Rahane and youngster Angkrish took the stride in and cut down the total by a big margin by constructing a much-needed partnership.
Just when it looked like KKR are all over on the top, Chahal struck and removed Ajinkya. KKR were 72 for three wickets down and that was the time when Punjab's bowling put forth the counterattack. Yuzi Chahal picked up four wickets, Jansen got two, Maxwell got one and from 72 for 3 wickets, KKR were reduced to 79 for 8 down. That was just unbelievable and iconic at the same time.
Andre Russell powered two sixes and a four in the last over of Chahal but Jansen castled him with a beauty. Punjab Kings won the low-scoring contest by 16 runs at Mullanpur.
