PCB Refused To Play ODI Series Against Sri Lanka! Reason Revealed: The Pakistan Cricket Team is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in July 2023 for two Test matches against the Sri Lankan cricket team. Sri Lanka suggested scheduling a limited-overs series in addition to tests, but the PCB refused to play ODI Series Against Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan Cricket Board initially expressed interest in the proposal of holding an ODI series in addition to the two-match Test series but eventually reversed course. In response to Sri Lanka Cricket’s expression that they are interested in hosting the full Asia Cup in 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied their request to play an ODI series on home soil.

The Sri Lanka Cricket’s preference to host the Asian tournament over adopting Najam Sethi’s suggested “Hybrid Model” caused tension between the PCB and SLC to worsen. This strategy recommended beginning with four matches in Pakistan and advancing to the next phase in the UAE.

“An example of the increasingly strained relations between the two boards emerged after the PCB turned down a proposal by the Lankans to play a few One-Day International matches next month in Sri Lanka,” a PCB source stated

Pakistan will visit Sri Lanka in July to play two Tests. The Test series will form part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. In August 2022, the ICC in a press release confirmed that the bilateral series.

Sri Lanka Cricket wanted to use those ODIs as pre-tournament preparation to help the team for the World Cup. It is also being said that a PCB source made some statements to PTI (Press Trust of India).

“It is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event at home,” a PCB source told PTI.

He said that PCB Chairman Sethi was unhappy with the way the boards of Bangladesh and Afghanistan responded to the Asia Cup issue. Najam Sethi also voiced his dissatisfaction with the responses from both boards.

“Sethi expected Sri Lanka with whom Pakistan has long had friendly relations, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to convince the BCCI and other Asian Cricket Council board members to go with the proposal put by Sethi and at least play three to four games in Pakistan of the Asia Cup before moving the tournament elsewhere,” the source added.
