Players Mumbai Indians (MI) may retain & release in IPL 2023 [Prediction]: The fifteenth edition of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) ended just a couple of weeks ago. Gujarat Titans (GT) became the champions of the season, in their debut season, defeating Rajasthan Royals in the summit clash. Though the IPL 2022 became a memorable season for the new teams, it turned out forgetful for the two most successful IPL teams, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Mumbai Indians returned with a wooden spoon, having dominated the bottom position throughout the league stage. Right from the start of the tournament, MI struggled to find the right balance. Several changes were made, but everything went in vain as the franchise kept losing matches on the trot.
Rohit Sharma-spearheaded MI suffered eight harsh losses in the tournament, before registering their victory. However, during the second phase, Mumbai did find their right playing XI, but it was too late for them to bounce back.
After registering an unwanted record of eight consecutive defeats in the first eight matches, Mumbai went on to win four from their last six. The five-time IPL champions finished their tournament on a high with a victory against Delhi Capitals to block their entry to the playoffs.
Though Mumbai suffered a humiliating season, they had several positives which they will be proud of. Though their quest for collective performance continued, they did find some odd performances from the players every now and then, which will be the biggest positive for the team moving ahead.
For the next season, which will be IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians certainly looks a good side that can perform way better than it did in the IPL 2022. Before heading to the IPL 2023, every franchise will have to go through the auction process.

Players Mumbai Indians (MI) may retain in IPL 2023:
All the ten IPL teams will retain most of their players ahead of the IPL 2023 auctions. It is going to be a mini-auction, hence the bidding drama would be less compared to the mega auction, which happened ahead of IPL 2022.
MI shows complete faith in its core group no matter how they perform in one particular season. Despite Mumbai’s poor show in the IPL 2022, the management will retain most of its players.
The likes of Rohit Sharma (skipper), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard will form the first set of players to be retained. Though some experts reckon Kieron Pollard may face an axe from the franchise, however, it will be really tough for the franchise to leave him out.
New players such as Dewald Bravis, Tilak Verma, Tim David, Basil Thampi, Daniel Sams, Riley Meredith and Hrithik Shokeen will also be retained by MI as the franchise sees its future in them.

List of Players Mumbai Indians (MI) might release in IPL 2023:
English pacer Tymal Mills may get an axe from the franchise in the IPL 2023. Mills played five matches for Mumbai and scalped six wickets at an expensive economy of over 11.
Spinner Mayank Markande also seems to be out of Mumbai’s long term plans. He didn’t get a chance in a single IPL 2022 match despite Mumbai shuffling the playing xi every now and then. Moreover, Murugan Ashwin and Hrithik Shokeen got a nod ahead of him which gives a clear indication of Mumbai’s plans for the future.
West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen just got one match to play his part in Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022. Allen doesn’t look a fitting player for the franchise in blue and gold as they have a couple of decent spinners. All they now need is a fast-bowling all-rounder.
Jayadev Unadkat is also unlikely to get retained in the IPL 2023. The experienced pacer played five matches for Mumbai in which he scalped six wickets at a decent economy of 9.50. The pacer failed to provide initial breakthroughs on most occasions.
List of Released Players [Prediction] – Tymal Mills, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, Fabian Allen.
