WPL updated Points table (12 March): WPL 2023 has begun on March 4 with Mumbai Indians squaring off against Gujarat Giants. The Women’s Premier League is a five-team Tournament where teams are set to involve in the double-robin round fixtures. Mumbai Indians soundingly beat Gujarat Giants in the tournament opener by a massive margin of 153 runs and then beat Royal challengers Bangalore by 9 wickets. Gujarat Giants finally got a win and 2 points defeating RCB.
In the round-robin stage, the five teams will face off against one another twice. There will be 20 league games in total or eight games for each team. The table topper team then advances directly to the grand finals while the teams who finished second and third compete in an elimination round to decide the second finalist.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated on the day of the player auction that the tournament may eventually grow to more locations, but for now, it is all in Mumbai due to logistical considerations, as it was only recently, in the last few months, that the tournament was planned.
