IPL 2022: Predicting the captains of all eight IPL franchises for the IPL 2022

IPL 2022: Predicting the captains of all eight IPL franchises for the IPL 2022.

IPL 2022: The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will get underway in its usual window of March-May in the year 2022. Unlike this year’s IPL, which was first made compact with more doubleheaders and then suspended due to multiple covid cases inside the bubbles. The Indian Premier League 2022 will be immense in various aspects of the game.

As reported earlier, two new IPL franchises will be inducted in the next year’s IPL to make the competition a ten teams affair. Moreover, the board will also conduct the Mega Auction which will give a fair chance for all the franchises including the two new to fetch some good players. We will not have many discussions about the two new franchises in this article.

Furthermore, the board will also try to bring back the fans to the stadiums with all the safety protocols. The year 2022 could embark on the revival of cricket in India, in terms of fans and their presence.

There will be a lot of back and forth situations in the next year’s IPL due to the Mega Auction and a couple of other big events. Many players will get shuffled and a lot will get their first-ever bid to enter the big stage.

Besides all these, every management will look to retain their key players and keep their skippers intact in the position for next few more years.

In this very article, we will predict the captains of all eight IPL franchises for IPL 2022.

IPL 2022: Predicting the captains of all eight IPL franchises for the IPL 2022:

8. Rajasthan Royals (RR):

Vivo IPL 2021: Sanju SamsonVivo IPL 2021: Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson

The Rajasthan Royals management will show faith in their new skipper for a couple of more years. Sanju Samson who was appointed the leader of the side after the removal of Steve Smith ahead of the IPL 2021 Auction, will continue with his position in the next year’s IPL.

It will be unfair for any captain, especially a young captain to get sacked after just one year’s captaincy. Moreover, his best will begin to come out from IPL 2022 with one year’s captaincy experience.

Samson has been good with his leadership role for now, at least for the debutant skipper. He has led his team to three wins in seven games in IPL 2021 first half.

The newly rebranded IPL franchise, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will also continue to have the services of KL Rahul as a leader of the group. Ever since Rahul has handled the captaincy reins of the team, PBKS has done invariably well.

Although the team has been in topsy turvy situations most of the time, Rahul has honed the skills to lead the bunch of guys comfortably.

Moreover, he has been one of the most successful batsmen in the recent past. He has always remained the top scorer for his franchise and also a couple of times lead the over run-getters chart.

In the IPL 2020, Rahul topped the run-getters chart with over 600 runs in 14 league stages games. He is also one of the top scorers in the first half of the IPL 2021.

6. Mumbai Indians (MI):

The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) no doubt will carry on with Rohit Sharma as the supreme head of the team. His excellence in the IPL has no boundaries and is constantly improving with his skills.

He took over the role from Ricky Ponting midway through the IPL 2013 and he led Mumbai Indians (MI) to their first-ever title during the same IPL. Since then, he has bagged five IPL titles until 2020.

The men in blue and gold won their second consecutive title last year, breaking the jinx of odd year champions.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):

Virat KohliVirat Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) without any second thought for the IPL 2022. RCB even though has not ended his trophy drought but Kohli will be the one guy to whom the management will look up to.

He has been absolutely ruthless in the IPL. Kohli has scored plenty of runs with a brilliant average in the IPL. The skipper is the leading run-getter in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The IPL 2021, might go to RCB as well, as they have shown great intent and composure in the first half. Who knows, the title drought may end this season.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):

Shubman GillShubman Gill

With the consistent failure of Eoin Morgan in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a captain and as a skipper, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise might take a big stride to hand over the leadership to young Shubman Gill.

Gill is a fantastic young prospect and will be with the team for many years to come. He has done good work while opening the innings for KKR and the management will look up to him to take over the role and lead the side.

The franchise might keep Morgan and Dinesh Karthik in the team around Gill to support him and assist him with the roles.

3. Delhi Capitals (DC):

Quite an easy option to pick. Dashing Shreyas Iyer will lead the Delhi based franchise in the IPL 2022. Iyer got injured ahead of the IPL 2021 due to which he had to sit out of the first half.

It was a masterstroke from the Delhi management to appoint Rishabh Pant leader of the side in presence of experienced Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane. Pant has shown immense improvement with his apt decisions. He has held the number 1 position in the points table of IPL 2021 with six wins out of eight games.

If Iyer gets fit for the second phase of IPL 2021, which will begin on September 17, he will eventually take over his role once again.

The right-handed batsman took Delhi Capitals (DC) to its maiden IPL final last year and this year the team will look to bag the trophy for the first time.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):

Kane WilliamsonKane Williamson

The Sun group owned Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might look to go ahead with Kane Williamson as the commander of the team.

Williamson was appointed the skipper after SRH sacked David Warner from the role due to his consistent failure in IPL 2021. The management said that Williamson will lead the side for this season only, however, Kane’s brilliance and excellent decision making power will certainly make him the leader for the upcoming season as well.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

Ravindra JadejaRavindra Jadeja

Although it’s very tough to say, MS Dhoni will most probably step down from the captaincy by himself in the IPL 2022. He will remain in the team to assist the next skipper just like he did when Virat was made the skipper.

It is too early to predict the next skipper of CSK as there are a lot of choices for the franchise.

As per the reports from various news outlets, Ravindra Jadeja has emerged as the top contender for the honour in CSK group.

Furthermore, Suresh Raina is also the one who can take up the role for a couple of years.
