Punjab Kings (PBKS) unlikely to retain any player ahead of IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

IPL 2022: The Mohali based IPL franchise has decided to go with full purse into the coming IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Punjab Kings (PBKS) is reportedly looking not to retain any of their player from the previous squad.

Notably, the governing body of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has asked all the teams to submit their final list of top four retentions by the end of November. As the deadline is approaching, the picture is getting clearer with what the franchises are looking for at the mega auction IPL 2022.

Understandably, PBKS wants to go into the auction with a complete purse value of INR 90 Crores and revamp the entire squad. They will chalk out their clear plans for the upcoming IPL 2022 Mega auction and can easily go after players whom they desperately want on their side.

One of the major jolts PBKS received was KL Rahul’s decision to part ways with the franchise. Rahul, the skipper of the side, was doing exceedingly well for the franchise but wasn’t getting adequate support from other players. He seemed like a lone warrior in the side, dragging it each time.

The reports suggest that KL Rahul has made his mind to seek better opportunities by exposing himself to the mega auction. He is up for grabs and will raise several eyebrows with what he brings to the table. Certainly, he is going to be one of the costliest buys of the IPL ever.

He remained the leading run-scorer for PBKS since 2018. He breached 600 runs mark three out of four times during his stay at PBKS. He earned the Orange cap in IPL 2020 and was the third-highest run-getter in the recently concluded IPL.

Surprisingly, Punjab Kings (PBKS) wasn’t able to perform and live up to the expectations. They acquired some of the best Indian and overseas talents, however, it went in vain.

If the progress of the franchise since its inception is analysed, it sums out to be underwhelming. Only twice in fourteen seasons, they managed to enter the playoffs, once during the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008 and the other during IPL 2014.

The decision not to retain any of their players could turn out to be right for them as they want a completely different atmosphere in their dressing room. It will be interesting to see how the output pans out during the IPL 2021.
