CSK Premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has decided to step down from his captaincy duties and hand it over back to the former skipper MS Dhoni following his team’s poor performance in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The call came after Jadeja has decided to focus on his game.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a statement said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has accepted to lead the franchise once again after Ravindra Jadeja stepped down.
It’s important to note that Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to leave CSK leadership prior to the start of the Tata IPL 2022. Senior and experienced Ravindra Jadeja was then subsequently announced as the new leader of the Chennai Super Kings.
“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” read the CSK statement.
Notably, Ravindra Jadeja didn’t enjoy his time as the CSK skipper suffering six defeats in eight matches of the tournament. The franchise couldn’t start well and lost four consecutive matches, making it tough for rookie skipper Ravindra Jadeja to bounce back.
After taking up the skipper’s role in CSK, Jadeja too hasn’t managed to unleash his best. The all-rounder has only managed to score 112 runs from eight matches at a poor strike rate of 121.73.
Chennai is currently placed 9th in the points table with just two wins from eight outings so far in the IPL 2022. The yellow brigade will face daunting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in its next encounter on Sunday.
