RCB vs GT 2025: Gujarat Titans halt RCB's winning streak with a dominant 8-wicket victory!

RCB vs GT 2025: The IPL 2025 season opener in Bengaluru had everything a cricket fan could hope for—fiery pace, smart batting, and a clinical chase, though not the one Bangalore supporters wanted. Gujarat Titans dominated Royal Challengers Bengaluru on their home turf, first with disciplined bowling and then with a composed, effortless chase.

While RCB faltered in setting a competitive total, GT’s batters showcased adaptability, making the pursuit look easy. Though the contest turned one-sided, the match still delivered moments of brilliance, highlighted by some stellar individual performances.

Gujarat Titans put on a masterclass in chasing at an away venue, showcasing exactly how a team should adapt to different conditions in the IPL. After their bowlers set the tone in the first innings, their batters approached the chase with remarkable discipline and awareness.

Let's take a look at the match summary of RCB vs GT 2025 and the scorecard:

RCB vs GT 2025 Match Review

GT won the toss and, following the common trend in T20 cricket, opted to bowl first. Their decision was quickly justified as Mohammad Siraj made an immediate impact with the new ball. He nearly dismissed Phil Salt in the very first over but got his wicket soon after, also sending Devdutt Padikkal back to the pavilion.

RCB found themselves in early trouble at 42/4, struggling to find momentum. A much-needed recovery came through Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone, who stitched together a crucial 50+ stand to stabilize the innings.

Despite their resistance, GT kept the pressure on, with Sai Kishore delivering an exceptional spell of 2/21 in the middle overs. Livingstone fought hard and notched up a well-earned half-century, while Tim David provided a late flourish, finding the boundary a few times in the final over to push RCB to a competitive total.

Tim David in Overs 16-20 in the IPL since 2022

  • Runs: 592
  • Balls: 303
  • Dismissals: 19
  • Avg: 31.15
  • SR: 195.37

However, the day belonged to GT’s bowlers, who executed their plans brilliantly. Siraj’s fiery opening spell set the tone, while Sai Kishore’s control in the middle overs ensured RCB never got away. Their disciplined bowling effort put GT in a strong position heading into the chase.

The defense of 170 was never easy when the opponent was of that caliber but Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn't allow Gujarat batters to make much from the powerplay. He bowled an exceptional spell of 3-0-14-1 in the powerplay, however, that was the only wicket Gujarat lost in the powerplay.

Gujarat racked up 100 runs under 12 overs and that is where Josh Hazlewood removed in-form Sai Sudharsan on his 49. This brought in Sherfane Rutherford, the impact sub for Ishant Sharma and he along with Jos Buttler kept the scoreboard ticking and asking rate under check.

Gujarat needed 59 runs from 42 balls after Sai’s dismissal, and that’s when Rutherford and Buttler unleashed a brutal assault on RCB’s bowlers. They chased down the 170-run target with 13 balls to spare, securing their second-biggest victory while chasing. The Gujarat Titans triumphed over Royal Challengers Bengaluru by eight wickets at their home ground.

Interestingly, while M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is RCB’s fortress on paper, their win percentage at the venue remains below 50%.
