Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill set the stage on fire in the 62nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He played a wonderful inning that saw his team become the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Opening the innings, Shubman Gill oozed his class and gave his team a strong start despite losing Wriddhiman Saha early. The right-hander placed the ball in gaps and timed the ball to perfection. He stitched 147 runs partnership with Sai Sudarshan (47) and helped his side post a total of 187 runs on the board.

Shubman Gill then went on to smash his maiden ton in the IPL. He scored 101 runs in just 58 balls. The opening batter batted with a strike rate of 174.14 and smashed 13 fours and 1 six in his innings. With his ton, he also scored 1000 runs for his franchise and scored a 550-run mark this edition.

Following Shubman Gill’s knock, Virat Kohli lavished rich praise on the young GT batter. He hailed him as the leader of the future generation and said that his potential is higher than everyone. Talking to his Instagram account, he said:
“There’s potential and there’s Gill. Go on and lead the next generation. God bless you,” Virat Kohli wrote in his Instagram story.
Notably, after his ton, Shubman Gill said that he follows Virat Kohli as he’s his hero and idol. He said:
“When I was 12-13 years old I followed Virat Kohli bhai the most, he has been my idol since I started understanding cricket. I learned a lot from Virat bhai.
