Revealed- Why Mohammed Shami wasn't selected in the India team for England Tests
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the strong 18-member squad for the Test series against England. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the five-match series, starting from the 20th July at the Headingley in Leeds.
One of the highlights of the squad was pacer Mohammed Shami wasn't named in the team for the series. This raised many eyebrows as the fast bowler has been one of the best pacers for India and his absence surely will leave a massive void in the team for the series.
Mohammed Shami, who made a comeback to the Indian team after a long injury in the England series, has been struggling with his fitness since then. The fast bowler hasn't been able to pick wickets in the IPL, and that has been the reason behind his omission from the team.
Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the series due to the injury
Chairman of chief selectors Ajit Agarkar talked and opened up about why Mohammed Shami wasn't named in the team. He revealed that "fast bowler has been ruled out of the series due to the injury that he faced last week".
Mohammed Shami has been a match-winner for India in the Tests. He played a crucial role for the team during the last England tour. His last Test appearance was during the final of the ICC World Test Championship against Australia in 2023.
Coming to the Indian squad for the Test series against England, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new Test skipper for the team with Rishabh Pant being his deputy. Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur and Arshdeep Singh have been added to the team.
Along with Mohammed Shami, Sarfaraz Khan has been dropped from the team as well. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna are the pacers. While Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the all-rounders in the team.
