Ricky Ponting opens up on his relationship with DC all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.
Vivo IPL 2021: The most successful Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has been in limelight all throughout his career owing to his exceptional cricket career as a batsman and as a captain as well. The former cricketer has managed to bag the limelight once again with his brilliant coaching skills in the IPL. Under Ponting, Delhi Capitals (DC) has thrived and bagged their first-ever IPL final berth in the last edition of the Indian Premier League.
The ever outstanding coach of DC shares a great bond with a few players on and off the field. One of those is with Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. Ponting during his recent interaction with cricket.com.au revealed his relationship with Stoinis.
The decorated former cricketer labelled Stoinis as a deep thinker and hence he doesn’t want to flood his mind with so much information. Furthermore, he said that the all-rounder has been in and out of Australia’s national side and hasn’t quite found his desired slot in the playing11.
“With Australia, he’s been in and out of the side, and not really found a spot in the batting line-up. I’ve tried to make it pretty clear to him where I see him slotting in with the Delhi Capitals outfit and the role he’s going to play for us,” said Ponting.

The 46 years old stated that he doesn’t love to interfere as long as the player has a clear mindset and is doing the right thing. His interference would occur only when he sees players erring somewhere with their game.
“He is a hard worker. He likes to bat and bowl as much as anyone we’ve had at Delhi. So as long as I give some clear direction and he understands what he’s doing and what his role is, I just let him go about getting himself prepared. I’ll only interfere with players’ preparation if I think they’re bludging and they’re not doing the right thing,” said Ponting.
