Rishabh Pant released from India’s ODI squad: After consultation with the medical staff, the BCCI confirmed on Sunday that Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series. The BCCI withheld the details in a statement, simply stating that the decision had been taken “in consultation with the BCCI medical team” and that “no replacement has been sought.”
The India captain, Rohit Sharma, acknowledged “a few injuries” during the toss before the first ODI in Dhaka on Sunday morning, adding that KL Rahul would be keeping wickets. Kuldeep Sen, a 26-year-old quick bowler, made his debut for India in this match. India’s starting XI included Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar in addition to Rahul, who doubled as the wicketkeeper.
“In consultation with the BCCI Medical Team, Rishabh Pant has been released from the ODI squad. He will join the team ahead of the Test series. No replacement has been sought. Axar Patel was not available for selection for the first ODI,” the BCCI statement reads.

Following a streak of poor performances, Rishabh Pant’s position on the Indian team has been bitterly debated. Pant hasn’t managed a single half-century since he scored the game-winning century for India against England in June at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge Stadium.
Mohammed Shami was forced to withdraw from the series on Saturday, the day before the first ODI, due to a shoulder injury he sustained while practicing after returning home from the men’s T20 World Cup last month. A replacement has been brought in in the form of Umran Malik, who earned his ODI debut on the tour of New Zealand late last month.
