Team India’s flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been successful in deviating the heat from the internet after some classy stroke play against India to ink the history. He said, “he was undergoing through the same heat every now and then even if he cut himself off from the outside world”.

Pant answered his critics with the bat as he rode India to a memorable win at Brisbane against Australia. Against the class bowling unit, Pant took up the challenge and powered his team to the winning lead. He played two memorable knocks in the Australia Test tour of 97 and 89 runs.

The first knock against Australia came under pressure when the batsman took painkillers and injections to play for his country. Pant was hit in his elbow and looked uncomfortable after the blow, however, he didn’t lose hope and came to bat in the fourth innings to save the test match.

“I was feeling the heat each and every day, it’s part and parcel of the game. But as an individual, you need to believe in yourself,” Pant, a key player in the team’s 2-1 series triumph, told ‘India Today’.

“If you are improving day by day so you must be getting better. Focus so much on your game that you are left with no time to listen to the outside noise. It becomes sometimes difficult to avoid that but eventually, I segregated myself up.”

“If you are doing well on the ground then the people will write good things about you. But when the downfall comes, then you must prepare yourself for the criticism and I believe that is the part and parcel of the game. There should be no time to focus on the criticism, get better day by day and that’s what is cricketers life all about.”

The plan was to go for the win right from the start: Rishabh Pant

The hard work of the 23 years old wicketkeeper as he emerged as the third-highest run-scorer in the four-game test series by playing just three games.

Pant said he was anyways going for the win, draw was not in his dictionary.

“The plan right from the start was to win, there was no word like draw. Even I had that thought to win the game and take the series. The management was also focused on the thoughts. Playing the natural game and punishing the loose balls is what gave us success in the test series.”

Rishabh Pant was disappointed as he didn’t live up to the expectations in the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup.

“There were several ups and downs but the World Cup for me was a massive opportunity to grab as it comes in every four years. I am disappointed as it was a good opportunity and we were in a good position.”

“I saw massive downfall after the World Cup. It’s natural and I was focused to train more and get better as there was the scope for the improvement.”

“In the last couple of years I learnt that there is no limit of learning, you need to get better and better as there is always some scope of the improvement. That is what I will take with me as a learning and blessing.”
