Fastest Century in Ranji Trophy: On Monday, Assam captain and Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag registered his name in history books by becoming the 2nd fastest batter to score a century in a Ranji Trophy fixture. The batter took on Chattisgarh and tormented them to etch his name in the records for scoring one of the quickest tons in the elite domestic tournament.
Riyan Parag achieved this feat during Day 4 of Assam’s Group B fixture against Chattisgarh in the Ranji Trophy tournament. The right-handed batter slammed a 56-ball century before adding another 55 runs for his side.
The batter clubbed 12 sixes and 11 fours during his 155 runs valiant knock in 87 deliveries against Chattisgarh. Despite such a lion-hearted effort, Assam ended the game on a losing cause by 10 wickets.
Now Riyan Parag’s 56-ball century is only second to Rishabh Pant’s 48-ball ton in the Ranji Trophy back in 2016. The other players in the elite list are Naman Ojha, who scored 100 runs in 69 deliveries, followed by Eklavya Dwivedi and Rishabh Pant again in 72 and 82 deliveries respectively.
It’s noteworthy that the Assam skipper’s knock was exceptional as it came in a difficult situation. Assam was bowled out 159 runs in the second innings by Chattisgarh after putting up a score of 327 in the first innings. A follow-on was enforced on Assam and the team again got reduced to 78/2 when Parag walked out to bat.
With wickets continuously tumbling at one end, Riyan Parag’s innings ensured that the team didn’t lose with an innings. The Assam skipper’s 155 runs knock aided Assam to put some runs on board after overcoming the target posted by Chattisgarh.
Although, eventually, Assam lost the fixture by 10 wickets as Chattisgarh hunted down the 87 runs total in just 20 overs, Parag’s knock will go down in history as one of the finest in extraordinary situations.
