Things are not going right for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. As per the reports in Danik Jagron, it is learned that the five-time champions currently have two sides inside the dressing room.
Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Verma and others are on the one side whereas Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan and others are on the other. This potentially has been due to the captaincy change which happened ahead of the IPL 2024.
The reports claimed that even franchise owners knew about the rift in the Mumbai Indians camp but they backed Hardik Pandya to captain the team. The franchise hasn’t had a great outing so far as they lost both the games in the IPL 2024.
Ahead of the IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians made a new skipper and removed Rohit Sharma as the leader. This came as a huge surprise because Rohit Sharma won five titles for the team as a leader and made them most successful in the league.
This didn’t go with many fans and was expected as they lashed out at skipper Hardik Pandya and Mumbai Indians for mistreating Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder has been getting booed by the crowd which isn’t giving him a rousing welcome at all.
Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2024 lost the first game against Gujarat Titans and then faced a thrashing loss against Rajasthan Royals. They conceded 277 runs against the Orange Army, which is the highest total in the IPL.
We could have done a few things here and there – Hardik Pandya after Mumbai Indians loss to SRH
Hardik Pandya admitted that he didn’t think that Mumbai Indians would score 277 runs. He admitted that they made mistakes in the game and added that it’s only a matter of time before they will be back in the tournament. He explained:
“Not really (though SRH would score 277 at the toss). The wicket was good, 277 no matter how bad or good you bowl, if the opposition has to score that much, they have batted well. They (the bowlers) were good, it was tough out there, almost 500 runs were scored and the wicket was helping the batters.
We could have done a few things here and there, but having said that, we have a young bowling attack and we will learn. Everyone (the batters) looked good and it is just a matter of time before we put things right.”
Mumbai Indians will next take on Rajasthan Royals on 1st April.
