Rohit Sharma officially becomes the greatest-ever Indian captain after a win over Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
India captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a massive feat in the history of Indian cricket. He became the only Indian skipper to lead the side into 4 consecutive finals in the four consecutive ICC events: the ICC World Test Championship, ICC World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma achieved the feat after the India National Cricket Team beat the Australia National Cricket Team in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The match took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday (4th March).
Rohit Sharma was brilliant with his leadership as he made staggering bowling changes and was tactically sound, and his team beat the opposition by 4 wickets. Opting to bat, Australia had a poor start to their innings as debutant Cooper Connolly was back in the hut, having scored a nine-ball duck.
But Travis Head (39) batted aggressively to put India under pressure. He, along with Steve Smith (73), added 50 runs for the second wicket before Marnus Labuschagne (29) joined hands with Smith as the duo added 56 runs for the third wicket. The captain looked solid with the bat and hit a solid half-century.
The tempo of the innings was raised by Alex Carey (61) as he hit a brutal half-century and thanks to his innings, Australia posted a total of 264 runs. For India, Mohammed Shami bagged three wickets.

India had a poor start to their chase as Shubman Gil was back in the hut early before Rohit Sharma (28) also perished. With the team under pressure, Virat Kohli (84) and Shreyas Iyer (45) joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble with their 91-run stand for the third wicket.
Kohli played the anchor role perfectly while others around him played a supporting hand. After Kohli got out, KL Rahul (42*) and Hardik Pandya (28) made sure that they finished the game on high as India won the match with 11 balls to spare.
Rohit Sharma, under whom India won the ICC T20 World 2024, would be keen to take his team to another glory. The final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to take place on Sunday (9th March).
