T20 World Cup 2021: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently released India’s formidable squad for the forthcoming all-important T20 World Cup 2021 scheduled in the UAE and Oman. The Board left the analysts and other cricketing geniuses with several talking points within the squad as the team consisted of numerous surprising inclusions and exclusions.

Seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s inclusion in the T20 team was one of the major call back for the Indian team. Ashwin last played his T20I match in July 2017 against West Indies and since then the spinner was overlooked by the selectors.

Despite having no appearance in T20I cricket for more than four years, Ashwin was included in the 15-men Indian squad by the selectors.

It is learnt that team India’s limited over vice-captain Rohit Sharma has played a major role in building this T20I squad for the World Cup 2021. The selectors took a thorough opinion of Rohit Sharma before finalising the squad.

Rohit Sharma backed the place for Ashwin in the team. Moreover, an injury to Washington Sundar opened the doors wide for the spinner to have a go in the squad. The reports suggest that when Rohit suggested R Ashwin’s name on the card, Virat Kohli also found himself on the same page and backed Ashwin’s place in the T20I team.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli earlier indicated Ashwin’s inclusion in the team. He asserted that the senior spinner can only be picked in India’s T20I setup if Washington Sundar by any means misses out on the opportunity.

Moreover, the role for Rohit Sharma has been increased in India’s limited-overs team. His approval and opinions are now taken before taking any decision for the white ball squad. Sharma has grown his presence in India’s decision making processes owing to his white-ball success as a batter over the years and his excellence with Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

6 Mumbai Indians players picked in World Cup squad:

Many pundits believe that its Rohit Sharma’s influence that forced the selectors to pick Mumbai Indians players in the team when there were two players up for one place.

Ishan Kishan was picked against the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson. Rahul Chahar made his way to the team against seasoned campaigner Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

Chief selector Chetan Sharma on Wednesday highlight the fact why Mumbai Indians players were picked in the squad. Ishan Kishan’s ability to adapt to different situations in the playing 11 and his good wicketkeeping skills have excited the selectors to go his way.

All the Mumbai Indians players get a licence to play a fearless brand of cricket under Rohit Sharma. The skipper has allowed the players to play to their natural instincts and grow up the ranks. The players are used to the winning mindset and more often than not steps up to rescue the team from crunch situations.

The supremacy of Mumbai Indians can be seen after having a look at India’s World Cup 2021 squad. As many as six players in the 15-men squad come from Mumbai Indians. These include three giant names of India’s limited over vice-captain Rohit Sharma, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and swashbuckling all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
