Rohit Sharma without doubt s been one of the finest white ball batters in the history of Indian cricket so far. The right-hander’s sheer ability to find the big hits and send the ball into the stands at will makes him one of the most destructive opening batsmen in the world.
The T20I format in particular is something in which Rohit’s numbers have been incredibly good. The batsman has smashed tons of runs and traumatized opponents for several years in his career. Let’s take a look at three of his best performances in T20I matches for India.
1. 100(56)* vs England (2018)
One of Rohit’s finest performances with the bat in a T20i match came in the decider of the three-match series against England. The home side has put on a massive 199-run target for India to chase in response to which India lost Dhawan early.
Rohit Sharma didn’t lose his composure and continued to steer the innings with cautious strokes. He found an able company from the other ends often during the middle overs first from Rahul and then Kohli. Once settled, the opener started to take on the bowlers and send their deliveries to the fence every now and then.
He ended up with an incredible century off just 56 balls as India handsomely won by 7 wickets.
2. 106(66) vs South Africa (2015)
Another magical T20I innings from Rohit Sharma was seen back in the year 2015 when the hard-hitting batsman ripped apart the proteas bowling lineup. It was the first of the three-match series and Rohit Sharma looked to be in fine rhythm.
The opener had his intentions to attack clear right from the first ball of the innings. Despite losing his opening partner early, he kept on resisting the opposition’s attack with quick scoring strokes. He built in an incredible partnership with Kohli s the duo piled on South Africa’s misery.
Rohit went on to bring up a fabulous ton and was eventually dismissed for 106. Despite his wonderful effort, India failed to win the match s South Africa triumphed to a wonderful win.
3. 118(43) vs Sri Lanka (2017)
Rohit Sharma’s best innings in T20Is came in 2017 against Sri Lanka at home. Rohit who was appointed the captain of the side in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli took this opportunity o to prove his worth to the cricketing world.
It was the second T20I of the three-match series when he was looking absolutely unstoppable right from the first ball of the Indian innings. He was mercilessly smashing all the bowlers or sizes and fours as India’s total raced to 100 inside 8 overs. He got able support from his opening partner KL Rahul.
Rohit first brought up his fifty off 23 balls and later on created history by smashing the fastest ever T20I century off just 35 balls. Rohit hit a total of 10 sixes and 12 fours and eventually went back for 118 runs off 43 balls as India posted a mammoth total of 260 batting first.
Sri Lanka was restricted o 172/9 in their 20 overs as India won the match by 88 runs.
