Ross Taylor announce his retirement from international cricket: New Zealand’s batting mainstay Ross Taylor took the entire cricket fraternity on their toes as he announce his international retirement. The Kiwi took to his social media handles to announce his international retirement after the end of New Zealand’s home summer.
Taylor, who has amassed 18,074 runs throughout his international career, will appear in his last test match against Bangladesh in January 2022 while his final assignment will be the ODI series against Australia and The Netherlands.
Reckoned as one of the best batsmen in the world, Ross Taylor played his part in the ICC World Test Championship final against India as well. The cricketer stitched a strong partnership with kiwi test skipper Kane Williamson. Both of them ensured New Zealand’s success with the bat in the final of the inaugural championship.
“Today I’m announcing my retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the home summer, two more Tests against Bangladesh, and six ODI’s against Australia & the Netherlands. Thank you for 17 years of incredible support. It’s been an honour to represent my country #234,” tweeted Ross Taylor.

He further thanked his family and all the others who’ve supported him in his journey of 17 years. Taylor mentioned that he will use all his energy and focus for the New Zealand summer now.
“But all good things must come to an end and the timing feels right for me. I want to thank my family, friends and all those who have helped me get to this point. There’ll be plenty of time for more thank-yous and reflections later in the season – but for now I want all my energy and focus to be on preparing and performing for the Black Caps this summer,” said Ross Taylor in a statement.
Ross Taylor aggregated a total of 7,584 runs in 110 test matches he appeared. He kept his average at 44.87 and smacked 19 tons and 35 half-centuries.
In 233 One Day International Ross Taylor played, he mustered a massive 8,581 runs at an average of 48.20. The dashing cricketer has whacked 21 hundred and 51 fifties.
The kiwi also has a good record in the shortest format of cricket. Taylor has totalled 1,909 runs in the 102 T20I matches at an average of 26.15.
