RR vs CSK 2025: Another Thriller! Death Bowling Shone as RR defeated CSK by 6 Runs

RR vs CSK 2025: Despite the sea of yellow at the Barsapara Stadium, it is the pink that prevails! CSK is involved and it often becomes a thriller! MS Dhoni got a promotion and he along with Jadeja took CSK very close but it was Rajasthan who held their nerves till the end. RR defeated CSK at Barsapara Cricket Stadium by 6 runs.

History repeated itself as Sandeep Sharma once again held his nerve in the final over against Chennai Super Kings. In Guwahati 2025, with 20 needed off the last over and MS Dhoni alongside Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, Sandeep delivered a clutch performance to bowl Rajasthan Royals to a six-run victory.

This mirrored his heroics in Chepauk 2023, where CSK required 21 in the final over, but Sandeep restricted them to secure a three-run win for RR. His ability to handle the pressure against the same formidable duo cemented his reputation as a reliable death-over specialist.

Let's take a look at the Match summary of RR vs CSK 2025 and Scorecards:

RR vs CSK 2025 Match Summary

TOSS and Playing11s

TAIL WAS THE CALL, TAIL IT WAS! Ruturaj won the toss and opted to bowl first. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad felt the pitch was better than the previous game and preferred chasing. CSK made two changes, bringing in Jamie Overton and Vijay Shankar.

RR captain Riyan Parag, playing in his hometown, admitted he would have opted to bowl as well. Rajasthan Royals remained unchanged as both teams looked to put up a strong performance.

Rajasthan Royals Playing11: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Riyan Parag(c), Dhruv Jurel(w), Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana, Sandeep Sharma, Tushar Deshpande

Chennai Super Kings Playing11: Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni(w), Jamie Overton, Ravichandran Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, Matheesha Pathirana, Khaleel Ahmed

Rajasthan Royals got off to a dramatic start, smashing a four off the first ball before losing Yashasvi Jaiswal on the third delivery. Nitish Rana, promoted to No. 3, made an immediate impact. He dominated the powerplay with a 21-ball half-century, taking Ravichandran Ashwin apart and punishing every bowler in sight as RR raced to 79 in the first six overs.

However, Ashwin made a clever comeback after the powerplay, deceiving Rana with a well-timed pause before delivering the ball, leading to a smart stumping. Noor Ahmad further dented RR’s innings by removing Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel in quick succession.

Despite losing wickets, Riyan Parag was determined to finish strong, but Matheesha Pathirana had other plans. The Sri Lankan pacer produced a sensational yorker to castle Parag and later dismissed Shimron Hetmyer, ensuring RR couldn’t breach the 200-run mark.

Chennai Super Kings pulled things back well, restricting Rajasthan Royals to 182, a competitive total on a surface offering some assistance to the spinners.

Jofra Archer made an immediate impact for Rajasthan Royals with a fiery opening spell, dismissing Rachin Ravindra for a duck. While wickets kept falling around him, Ruturaj Gaikwad fought hard and brought stability to CSK’s innings with a determined half-century.

Wanindu Hasaranga emerged as the biggest threat to Chennai, striking in every over and keeping the batters guessing with his sharp googlies. Interestingly, each of his three wickets came right after the batter had hit him for a six, highlighting his quick adaptability under pressure.

With 45 needed off the final three overs, CSK still had a chance with MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. However, Maheesh Theekshana delivered a tight over, conceding just five runs, shifting the momentum towards Rajasthan.

In a bold tactical move, RR handed the final over to Sandeep Sharma instead of Jofra Archer, a decision that proved decisive. Despite late efforts from Dhoni, Jadeja, and Jamie Overton, CSK could only manage 13 runs in the last over, falling short by six. Rajasthan Royals held their nerve in the dying moments to secure a hard-fought victory.
