RCB’s fairytale comeback in the TATA IPL 2024 comes to an end after they suffered yet another painful defeat from Rajasthan Royals (RR). The eliminator of the tournament between RCB and RR resulted in a 4-wicket loss for the former side, which now sees them out of the IPL 2024. While the loss in the do-or-die fixture is painful and agonising, what’s more saddening is Dinesh Karthik’s silent exit from the IPL.
The RCB players gave a Guard of Honour to wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik following their defeat against Rajasthan Royals. The gesture may mean that it was Karthik’s last swansong in the IPL.
Although there is no official confirmation from the batter himself or from the franchise, the scenes after the defeat are validation of the fact that it may be the last of Dinesh Karthik in the IPL and cricket for that matter.
After giving it all in the matches earlier, which led RCB to six massive wins, and over the last couple of years, Dinesh Karthik surely deserved a happy farewell, however, it was not meant to be his day.
With gloves on his hands, Karthik thanked the fans with a wave who stood to honour the cricketer with the chants of “DK DK”. The moment that caught everyone’s attention was when Virat Kohli walked up to Dinesh Karthik and embraced him with a warm hug.
The hugs and appreciation were all due and deserved as Karthik, possibly, draws the curtain to his IPL career, which he reinvented a few years back after being left out. The walk to the dressing room on this occasion appeared to be never-ending for Karthik, who is expected to formally announce his retirement shortly, the indications of which he dropped many a time during the course of the tournament.
Whatever it may be, Happy Retirement DK! You gave it all you had to lead the side to the win. The fairytale comeback of RCB wouldn’t have been possible if it was not for you.
RCB Out of IPL 2024 Playoffs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had another season of no near yet so far from clinching their maiden IPL title. Their resurrection during the last leg of the tournament only gave confidence to the team and the fans that the season could bring an end to their quest for the IPL glory.
However, things didn’t turn out well for the RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night.
All their efforts and grit came to an end as they faltered in the all-important eliminator of the tournament. As things stand, RCB is eliminated from the tournament while Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) will advance to qualifier 2 of the tournament.
