Sam Curran ruled out of the IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup 2021 due to a lower back injury.

Vivo IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) young overseas all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the ongoing season fourteen of the Vivo IPL 2021 and the subsequent men’s T20 World Cup 2021 due to lower back injury.

The bowling all-rounder after the match against Rajasthan Royals, in which he conceded 55 runs from his four overs, complained of back pain and further scans revealed a back injury. Curran went wicketless in the only two outings he made for CSK in phase two and conceded a whopping 111 runs from his eights overs without picking a single wicket.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in a statement said that Sam Curran is also ruled out of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman. His brother, Tom Curran, who was with the English squad as a travelling reserve, will replace him. In the meantime, Reece Topley is drafted into the England T20 squad as a travelling reserve.

The all-rounder will fly back home, England, in the next couple of days and will undergo a scan for a full review.

“Results of the scan revealed the injury,” an ECB release said. “He will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team.”

Tom Curran is part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad in the Vivo IPL 2021, however, is yet to feature in a game in the second leg. The all-rounder had a decent outing in the recently concluded The Hundred where he scalped 10 wickets from eight matches for Oval Invincibles.
