Sanjay Bangar appointed as RCB’s head coach for the next two years.
IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recently updated that former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar will be their new head coach for the upcoming two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
RCB further informed Mike Hesson, a notable New Zealand opener, to remain as the director of cricket operations. Hesson had to cover up two roles during the second phase of the Vivo IPL 2021 as Simon Katich had pulled out of the tournament citing his personal reasons.
Katich was the head coach of the side, however, his withdrawal from the tournament in the second leg forced Mike Hesson to take up two roles simultaneously.
Sanjay Bangar remained with RCB in IPL 2021 as the batting consultant and now will take up the head coach’s role for the next two seasons.
It is interesting to note that Bangar will have to work closely with the new RCB skipper and carry forward the strong environment created by Virat Kohli during his stay as the skipper of the side. Virat will no longer serve RCB as the skipper, while he will continue to provide his aids as a proper batter.

“Our work has already begun in terms of auction strategy. I would like to assure each of the RCB fans that we are committed to building a strong squad and we are committed to fulfilling the long-cherished dream of winning an IPL trophy,” Bangar said in a statement.
Bangar said that he has already worked with a couple of talented cricketers of the franchise and is elated to do the head coach’s duties for RCB.
“It’s an honour and great opportunity to serve such a great franchise in the capacity of Head Coach. I have worked with some exceptional and talented members of the squad and can’t wait to take this team to the next level.
“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done with the IPL Mega Auctions and the season following it, but I’m sure that together with the continued support of the management and the support staff, we can deliver the goods and bring cheer to our fans across the globe,” he added.
Mike Hesson, director of cricket operations RCB, said that the appointment of Sanjay Bangar as the head coach of the side took after several rounds of rigorous and robust procedures.
