Shame that DC couldn’t make it to the finals: Mitchell Marsh: Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has finally opened up on his team’s outing in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Aussie all-rounder feels that it is a “shame” that Delhi lost its last league stage match to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second last league stage match and helped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) qualify for the playoffs in place of Delhi.

“It was a shame we couldn’t get into the (IPL) finals,” the 30-year-old said ahead of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, beginning on June 7.

Australia is touring Sri Lanka for five matches One Day International Series.

Mitchell Marsh, initially, had a tough time in the IPL. The cricketer got infected with the coronavirus and had to undergo quarantine for multiple days before he could step out to play for his franchise.

Soon after he recovered from the covid, he was entrusted with middle-order responsibilities by the DC head coach Ricky Ponting.

The 30-year old amassed 270 runs in the Tata IPL 2022 for Delhi at a strike rate of 132.80.

“Everyone speaks about him (Ponting) so much and what he’s achieved in the game. But I got a real sense of how much he cares for his players – I guess that’s probably what he was like as a captain and a leader of a team,” he said.

Marsh said he felt “cursed” in India after he had a bit of a shaky start in the IPL 2022.

After my first couple of weeks, there I thought that I was cursed in India,” he said.

“I got through my initial injury – which was very minor – but then to play one game and get COVID, it was a bit of a shaky start but once I got going it was nice to put a few consistent performances on the board. I absolutely loved my time there.”
