India W vs England W: Shefali Verma given license to play her natural game says, Mithali Raj.
India W vs England W: Indian women’s skipper Mithaji Raj says the young Shefali Verma has always been encouraged to back her natural game and provide a valuable head start to the team. The skipper also asserted that the team has enough batting depth to recover if she fails.
The dashing teenager Shefali Verma is all set to make her ODI debut against England in the 1st ODI, starting today in Bristol County Ground.
Post her sensational debut in the shortest format, Shefali Verma went on to make her memorable test debut in a drawn game, scoring 96 and 63 in two innings against England.
“There will be times when she gives us a head start. We would love that to be consistent but at the same time she’s a young kid, she’ll learn with experience, she’ll also learn how to build an innings,” said Mithali Raj during the press conference ahead of the first ODI.
Raj said that she will encourage the young girl to play her natural game.

“Since she’s getting into playing the ODI format for the first time, I as a captain encourage her to play the way she enjoys playing is comfortable playing, that’s the style of batting she should do,” Mithali Raj added.
The skipper further said that the team is confident after a brilliant fightback to save the one-off test match against England last week.
“We look really positive going into the World Cup. The way the girls performed to save the Test has added confidence to the unit. England is a very good side, one of the best in the world. They will have the advantage of playing at home. But we have players who have played leagues here in England, we’ll gather information from them and that will help us do well,” she said.
