Vivo IPL 2021: Southpaw Shikhar Dhawan continued his good form as he struck 49 balls 92 in the second game of the first double-header here on Sunday. Dhawan’s top innings powered Delhi Capitals (DC) to a six wickets win over KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a fierce opening stand in pursuit of a mammoth total of 195. Shaw capitalising on the field restrictions scored 17 balls 32 before getting out in the 6th over. 

The new addition Steve Smith looked in a pale touch as he returned back scoring just 9 runs from 12 balls. Reiley Meredith picked Steve Smith.

Shikhar Dhawan and Skipper Rishabh Pant took their franchise closer to the target. Dhawan playing the majority picked quick runs with 13 boundaries and three sixes in his 92 runs.

Australian pacer Jhye Richardson dismissed Shikhar Dhawan eight short of his IPL ton in the 16 over.

The all-rounder Marcus Stoinis did the rest of the work as Mohammad Shami gifted two free hits to him in the 17th overs. With those couple of easy shorts, the target became easy for DC.

Delhi Capitals completed a total of 195 in just 18.4 overs with six wickets left.

Putting to bat first, Punjab Kings (PBKS) had a blistering start as opener Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul stitched a hundred runs stand.

Mayank Agarwal scored 69 runs from 36 balls while his partner KL Rahul amassed 51 balls 61.

Universe Boss Chris Gayle (11 off 9) failed to end the PBKS innings on a high while his West Indies mate Nicholas Pooran (9 from 8) yet again failed to make his presence on the field.

Deepak Hooda struck a good 13 balls 22 while Shahrukh Khan made 15 runs off 5 deliveries with two boundaries and a six in the 195 runs total.

Shikhar Dhawan was rewarded as the “Man of the Match” for his brilliant knock which powered DC to a comprehensive win.
