Shocking! BCCI removes Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip from the coaching staff ahead of the England tour
In what has been a shocking development, as per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a massive call ahead of the England tour. The governing body has removed assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip with immediate effect.
Not only this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India also has parted ways with strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai. The reports claimed that the decision has been taken following the team's debacle in the Australia, where they lost the series by the margin of 3-1.
While BCCI is yet to announce a replacement for Abhishek Nayar and T Dilip, Adrian Le Roux has been added to the team as a replacement for strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai. This will be the second stint for Le Roux with the Indian team. He is currently part of the Punjab Kings setup in the IPL.
Nayar, Dilip and Soham have been informed about it last week - BCCI source
A source close to BCCI confirmed that the governing body has informed Abhishek Nayar and T Dilip about the decision and they won't be part of the England tour. Speaking to the Indian Express, he said: “Nayar, Dilip and Soham have been informed about it last week. The Indian board will not have any new appointee as of now,” a source in the Indian board confirmed.
Abhishek Nayar was appointed after the T20 World Cup 2024 as head coach Gautam Gambhir and a lot of players expressed their confidence in him. T Dilip, on the other hand, has been part of the coaching staff since the time Rahul Dravid took over.
The move to remove Abhishek Nayar comes as a big shock because of his contributions to the team in the short span of time. He played a massive role in India winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and has also been nurturing young talents behind the scenes. His contract runs till August and there is no confirmation as to why he was removed.
The India team will be next seen in action during the England tour. They will be playing a five-match Test series, starting from 20th July. The series will also mark the beginning of the new edition of the world Test Championship and it could well be make or break for some players.
