Shocking! Gautam Gambhir's massive plan to force retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli exposed
India National Cricket Team head coach has played a massive role in forcing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to retire. As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the head coach wanted the fresh faces in the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
Gautam Gambhir categorically told BCCI that they want a fresh set of players in the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar was also on the same page, and hence, the two batters reportedly were forced to retire.
The reports added that Gautam Gambhir wanted to end the superstar culture in the Indian team. With a trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin gone, his objective seemed to have been completed, as the Test setup will see different players now.
Gautam Gambhir was categorical that during the next WTC cycle, India needed to have fresh faces
One of the sources close to BCCI confirmed that Gautam Gambhir wanted fresh faces for the next edition of WTC. He added that the head coach wasn't keen to take the seniors forward. Speaking to PTI, he said:
"The Gautam Gambhir era begins now. He was categorical that during the next WTC cycle, India needed to have fresh faces. Everyone associated with decision-making knew where Gambhir stood in terms of carrying seniors in the longest format. Obviously, his and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar's thoughts aligned."
Gautam Gambhir also was against giving captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah as he felt that the pacer's workload needed to be managed. Hence, he put forward the name of Shubman Gill, who will be soon announced as the next Test captain of the India National Cricket Team.
Also, it is learned that the upcoming Test series against India and England will be very crucial for Gautam Gambhir. It could be a make-or-break series for him as under him, the team lost the last two series.
