Shoulder injury keeps Washington Sundar out of the Indian team touring Zimbabwe: Young spin-bowling all-rounder, Washington Sundar has dealt with another blow as he has been ruled out of India’s upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. Sundar is set to miss the three-match ODI series in Harare against Zimbabwe owing to an untimely shoulder injury.
Sundar, who was named in India’s squad for the Zimbabwe tour, suffered a shoulder injury while playing in the Royal London Cup in England. The incident happened in the match between Lancashire and Worcestershire.
He will now head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore for his rehabilitation program.
“Yes, Washington Sundar is ruled out of the Zimbabwe series. He has suffered an injury on his left shoulder while fielding during the Royal London Cup game between Lancashire and Worcestershire at Old Trafford. He will have to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Unfortunately, Washington Sundar’s career has been hit by injuries. Since 2021, Sundar has dealt with four major injuries in his hand, finger, hamstring and now shoulder.
“You feel for Washi. Such a talented guy. Somehow or the other, the rub of the green isn’t going his way. He needs some luck. The latest injury is a freak one as he was just about to play for India in a week,” the official added.
The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer last played in a T20I game in March 2021 against England and since then he is away from the cricketing field due to multiple injuries. His last ODI came against West Indies in February 2022.
Sundar’s comeback to the Indian side is crucial for him to be considered for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 squad. With such multiple injury concerns, it will be difficult for him to make a cut for the world cup.
