India batter Shreyas Iyer named his idol in the childhood. He named skipper Rohit Sharma as a player whom he looked up to since childhood. What caught the attention of many was he didn’t name Virat Kohli, who he has been spending a lot of time with.
Shreyas Iyer has been one of the best talents going around in the world of cricket. The batter has solved the middle order problems for the Indian Cricket Team and was one of the backbones for the team in the ICC World Cup 2023.
The batter slammed over 500 runs in the tournament and became the first middle-order batter from India to achieve the feat. He also slammed two centuries in the tournament with one coming in the semi-final of the tournament.
In such a short period, Iyer has developed himself into one of the most reliable batters for the team. Shreyas Iyer is also seen as a potential candidate to lead India in all three formats of the game in future as he has been terrific in IPL.
Shreyas Iyer recently attended the comedy show of Kapil Sharma with skipper Rohit Sharma. The batter revealed that the captain has been his idol as they both are from Mumbai and he grew up watching him. He stated:
“Rohit bhai is my idol since childhood – he is from Mumbai and I am also from Mumbai – I have grown up watching him”.
The host Kapil Sharma also asked the players Whose call among the players would you never put on speaker? Replying to his Shreyas Iyer named Rohit Sharma, saying, “I can assure you that in every conversation there are at least a few curse words, from start to finish and even in between it’s riddled with curses”.
Shreyas Iyer doing terrific job as captain in IPL 2024
Shreyas Iyer has been magnificent as a captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024. The batter has captained the team brilliantly well and has guided them to three wins in three games. The right-hander has been spot-on tactically well with his changes and decisions.
Shreyas Iyer has been decent with the bat as well. He would be hoping to continue his winning run and contribute with the bat. KKR will be next seen in action when they take on Chennai Super Kings in their next game on Monday (7th April).
