IPL 2021: Shreyas Iyer will continue leading role for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.

IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals (DC) on Friday declared that Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead Delhi Capitals even the franchise has acquired Steve Smith in the IPL 2021. The franchise reached its maiden final last year against Mumbai Indians (MI).

Delhi Capitals CEO Col. Vinod Bisht said, “We backed Shreyas when we promoted him to be the captain. Under him, the team came third in 2019 and reached the final in 2020. He is growing as a leader. I am sure the team will continue to do well under his leadership.”

On Friday, the franchise also unveiled its jersey for the coming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Any of the seniors who come in, be it Rahane, Ashwin or Steve Smith, they have a lot of knowledge to impart to the young camp. We expect all the seniors will continue to do so including Steve Smith,” Bisht said.

Vinod Bisht further told that the support staff has done brilliant work in grooming the young talents over 3-4 years.

“We have groomed young guns for the last 3-4 years and will we continue to be with them. They have flowered now and producing a memorable season for us. If they continue to do so, we will definitely look to them as two new franchises come in next year.”

The CEO of Delhi Capitals launched the new jersey and it looks stunning. The franchise made sure that they have their top fans attending the launch event. Some of the fans even got the chance to have a one-on-one conversation with Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer in the event.

“The fans have been a constant source of motivation for us through all ups and downs in all these years. So we have to make them feel special,” said Chairman and co-owner of Delhi Capitals Kiran Kumar Grandhi. 

A photoshoot for the selected fans was organised by the franchise with the new jersey of the team. This was similar to the photoshoot of players of the franchise.
