Shubman Gill joins Ahmedabad IPL team for IPL 2022, ahead of Ishan Kishan: In the latest development from the horizon of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Ahmedabad based new IPL franchise has reportedly signed an official deal with young opener batsman Shubman Gill for the upcoming edition of the T20 extravaganza.
As per the recent reports, Ahmedabad’s negotiations with the young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan didn’t reach a fruitful conclusion following which the franchise later opted to go with Shubman Gill as their third draft pick for the Tata IPL 2022.
The other two draft picks for Ahmedabad are reported to be all-rounder Hardik Pandya and ace spinner Rashid Khan. Both the cricketers are being paid the same amount for their services, i.e., INR 15 Crores while Shubman Gill is reportedly extracting INR 7 Crores from the Gujrat based IPL team.
Former Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, is set to lead the side, which is apparently going to be his maiden season as the captain of the pack.
“Ahmedabad has decided on its players and accordingly informed the BCCI about their draft picks. Hardik, Rashid and Shubman are the three choices,” a senior IPL official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
It is further learnt that Ahmedabad was convinced to acquire the services of Ishan Kishan, however, the southpaw chose to lead his way to the auction table and get into a team at a premium price.
It must be noted that Ishan was an integral part of Mumbai Indians (MI) and surely the franchise would love to pick Ishan’s services once again, which might be the reason why Ishan has opted to go to the auction table.
“They [Ahmedabad] wanted Ishan Kishan badly but it is understood that Ishan is more interested in going back to the auction and there is a high chance that MI might buy him at a premium price.”
