SL vs AFG 2023: Sri Lankan Cricket Board announces the 16 members Squad for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, which will start from June 2nd to June 7th 2023.
The Sri Lankan cricket board has scheduled an ODI series against Afghanistan just before the ICC world cup 2023 Qualifier, which will be played in Zimbabwe from June 18th. This Series was announced to prepare Sri Lankan players for the important tournament so that they can get qualified for the World Cup 2023.
Matheesha Pathirana was included in the Squad:
Chennai Super Kings star Pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who impressed everyone with his death bowling skills and was also known as ‘baby Malinga’ has been added for the ODI series against Afghanistan. Matheesha Pathirana had performed outstandingly in the IPL 2023, and now, after the T20I Team, he got a chance to play longer format cricket for the Sri Lankan Team.
The Leading Pacer of the Sri Lankan Team, Dushmantha Chameera, comes back into the Squad after a long time due to the calf Injury. Chameera’s coming back into the Squad will be a big relief for his team ahead of the World Cup 2023 qualifier, and He will lead the Pace attack of the Sri Lankan Team.
Dasun Shanaka will lead the Sri Lankan Team for the three matches ODI series against Afghanistan, starting from June 2nd in Hambantota. Kusal Perera will miss the ODI series due to a hamstring injury, whereas Dimuth Karunaratne and Sadeera Samarawickrama have been included in the 16-member Squad.
Sri Lankan Team failed to get direct qualification for World Cup 2023 thus, they will be playing ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 against Ireland, Scotland, Oman, and UAE from June 19th.
