SL vs AFG 2024: Afghanistan Announces Strong Squad for the One-off Test Match against Sri Lanka | Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan Test Series 2024: Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the 16-member squad for the upcoming one-off test match against Sri Lanka which is scheduled to start from February 02, 2024. There are some new faces added to the squad for the one-off test.
Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan wasn’t added to the squad as he was still recovering from the back surgery. Rashid Khan was initially part of the squad in the India tour but later his replacement was announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board. All-rounder Qais Ahmed has been added to the squad, they will strengthen the bowling line-up and also increase the depth in batting.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will be leading the Afghanistan Men’s Cricket Team in the one-off test match against Sri Lanka. Shahidi led the team well in the past few months but unfortunately, Afghanistan lost the three-match T20I series against India by 3-0 under the leadership of Shahidi.
The Two Young Afghani Players Naveed Zadran and Mohd. Ishaq got their maiden call for the one-off test match against Sri Lanka. Both the players have played excellent cricket in the franchise and domestic cricket therefore, they were added to the Afghanistan Men’s Cricket Test Team.
Ikram Alikhail is likely to play the one-off test match and will be doing the wicket-keeping for Afghanistan. Some of the Key players like Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Naveen ul Haq weren’t added to the squad as they are playing franchise cricket (ILT20 and BPL 2024).
It will be the inexperienced bowling unit of Afghanistan in the one-off test match against Sri Lanka. Afghanistan has played only seven test matches so far and they haven’t played a single test match against Sri Lanka before.
