SL vs Eng: England’s limited over opening batsman Jonny Bairstow seems impressed with Jacques Kallis addition. Bairstow said the inclusion of South African great as the batting consultant is a fantastic move.

The 45-years old Jacques Kallis will be joining England’s squad for the two-game series against Sri Lanka starting January 14. Bairstow has been out of test cricket for more than a year now. He is expecting to return to the format in the Sri Lanka series and looking forward to work with Jacques Kallis whom he rates as one of the finest all-rounders.

“I feel the addition of Jacques Kallis to the squad is a fantastic move and someone of his caliber is always a plus point for a team,” Bairstow said in the virtual press conference.

“He had some good impact on games, for me, he is one of the finest all-rounders that cricket has ever witnessed,” he added.

“Someone who has batted top the order caught some of the blinders and picked up bundles of the wickets.”

The South African has amassed 13,289 runs at an impressive average of 55 and picked up 292 scalps in 166 test games during his 19-years old career.

Jacques Kallis is just behind India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Australia’s Ricky Ponting in the total number of runs in the longest format of cricket.

Jacques Kallis will join the England squad on Friday:

Bairstow who admires him the most feels he has a lot to learn from the South African former all-rounder who is in quarantine and will join the squad on Friday.

“There are so many different aspects you could speak to him about. I am really intrigued to spend more time with him and gauge and understand the process,” said Bairstow.

“It is really good to have him around, surely will spend some time with him learning the aspects of the game,” Bairstow added.

England and Sri Lanka will play two test games in the series and the first test will begin on January 14th. England does not have a good time arriving in Sri Lanka as England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali tested positive upon arriving.
