Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in Galle International Stadium; the Player of the match was Saud Shakeel, who scored 208* (361) & 30(38), respectively, in both innings. Pakistan surpassed Australia in the ICC WTC Points Table.
Sri Lanka won the toss, and they elected to bat first, but they were bowled out for just 312 runs while batting first. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 122 runs in 214 balls for Sri Lanka, whereas Shaheen Afridi took three wickets for 86 runs.
Pakistan then responded with massive 461 runs in their first innings; all credit goes to Saud Shakeel; he played a fantastic game and scored 208 runs, and Salman Ali Agha scored 83 runs in 113 balls. Ramesh Mendis took five wickets for 136 runs in 42.2 overs.
In the second innings, Sri Lanka was set a target of 131 runs; Dhananjaya de Silva scored 82 runs in 118 balls, whereas Abrar Ahmed took three wickets for Pakistan and gave 68 runs in 24.1 overs.
This was Pakistan’s first Test win in Sri Lanka since 2015, and it was a significant victory for them in the ICC World Test Championship. They are now in second place in the standings, just behind Australia. The second Test will be played in Colombo from July 24-28, 2023.
