EngW vs IndW: Indian women’s cricket team head coach Ramesh Powar heaped huge praises on the debutant cricketer Sneh Rana and reckons her the find of the England series.

Rana played a crucial knock of 24 runs in 22 balls and scalped the wicket of Lauren Woodhill to escape the whitewash against England. Indian skipper Mithali Raj reminded the top scorer for India scoring an unbeaten 75 in the third ODI.

Powar in a video posted on Twitter said Sneh Rana was looking good in the nets and the management thought of giving her a chance in the playing11.

He further said although it was a tough call to pick two off-spinners, Rana played her part in the game.

“Sneh Rana is the find of this series. The way she was bowling in practice sessions at Southampton, we thought we must give her a chance. It was a difficult decision to play two off-spinners in the playing 11 but she played her role to the core. And am really happy for her because being an off-spinner I can see the talent. She is a player who can play in the crunch situations and that’s what we needed right now,” Powar said in a video tweeted by the BCCI.

Shifting the focus to the match, Powar said the team has learned a lot of things with this tour. The fielding and bowling was good and batting needs to be improved if the team is aiming for the World Cup.

“Bowlers brought us back into the game and I think we have to learn many things from this series. Fielding and Bowling improved immensely and I think batting also needs to be improved if we are aiming at the World Cup,” added Power.

The coach also heaped praises on skipper Mithali Raj, who surpassed England’s Charlotte Edwards to become the leading run-getter in women’s cricket.

“Mithali Raj deserves every bit of it. She has been amazing throughout her 22 years career. She is a role model for a lot of girls. In today’s match, she single-handedly won us the game. Chasing 220 on a low bounce track, she took us over the line,” said the coach.
