South African all-rounder Chris Morris announce his all format retirement at 34.
South African pace all-rounder Chris Morris, on Tuesday (January 11th), announced his all format retirement from cricket. The 34-years old took to his social media handles to inform his decision.
Morris, a handy all-rounder, has further informed that he has accepted a coaching role in a domestic team Titans.
In his Instagram post, he thanked everyone who have played their part in his cricketing journey.
“Today I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket! Thanks to all who have played a part in my journey whether it be big or small it’s been a fun ride! Delighted to be taking up a coaching role at @titanscricket #lifebeginsnow,” Morris wrote on his Instagram page.
Chris Morris has played 69 matches across formats for South Africa in his 8 years short career. The all-rounder scalped 94 wickets in his career at an economy of 5.79. The gifted tail-end batsman has also amassed 2,912 runs throughout his international career.
Despite being a flamboyant, destructive batsman Chris Morris couldn’t translate his talent into hefty, impactful performances for South Africa in international matches. His inconsistency and unfortunate injuries have played a major spoilsport in his career.
Morris played his last international match back in the 2019 OD World Cup. He was roped in SA’s national team after Anrish Nortje was ruled out of the tournament due to his share of injury. Since then the cricketer has been constantly overlooked by the Protea selectors.
The Protea all-rounder picked headlines when he became the costliest player in the history of the IPL auctions. Morris bagged a mammoth contract of INR 16.25 Crores from Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2021.
The 34-years old will now contribute as the support staff. He has signed a deal with domestic side Titans following his all format retirement.
