SRH vs KKR: Classical Klaasen, Bowlers Aced and SRH Rattled KKR Away with a 110-run Win!
SRH vs KKR, Match no. 68: In a high-octane clash at Delhi, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) delivered a scintillating all-round performance to trounce Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a massive 110 runs.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, SRH piled up a colossal 278/3, the third-highest team total in IPL history, and then backed it up with a disciplined bowling display to end their campaign on a commanding note. KKR, in response, were bundled out for a paltry 168, falling well short of the target in what turned out to be a one-sided affair.
SRH’s innings was a batting masterclass from start to finish. Although Vaibhav Arora began with a tidy first over, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma quickly turned the tide with a blistering start that saw SRH race to 79 in the powerplay.
Abhishek’s cameo was short-lived as he fell to Sunil Narine, but his early fireworks had set the tone. The big surprise came when Heinrich Klaasen walked in at No. 3, and what followed was nothing short of carnage.
Head, after getting a life on 54, added valuable runs before departing for a well-made 76. However, the stage belonged to Klaasen. With a display of raw power and precision, he stormed to a 16-ball fifty and reached his century in just 37 balls.
His innings, studded with 9 sixes, was the second-best six-hitting effort for SRH this season, only behind Abhishek’s 10 sixes against Punjab. Klaasen’s onslaught, along with late acceleration from the middle order, pushed SRH to a near-unbelievable 278.
With a mammoth total on the board, SRH’s bowlers came out firing. Jaydev Unadkat struck early to dent KKR’s hopes, and Eshan Malinga and Harsh Dubey capitalized by choking the middle order. Slower deliveries and clever variations became the weapon of choice as KKR’s chase derailed quickly. Only Narine, Manish Pandey, and Harshit Rana showed some resistance, but none crossed the 40-run mark.
In the end, it was a collective bowling effort, highlighted by Dubey’s three-wicket haul, that sealed the emphatic victory. The match may have been a dead rubber, but SRH played with pride and precision, exacting a sweet measure of revenge for their loss in last season’s final.
