Sunil Gavaskar wants India to carry Bhuvneshwar Kumar for T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia: Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar wants the Indian selectors to pick senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Down Under. Gavaskar hailed the speedster for his performances in the opening 2 T20Is against South Africa, where he proved to be lethal with the new ball.

Kumar picked a solitary wicket in the opening T20I against the Proteas, however, made a comeback in the subsequent fixture with four crucial scalps. The senior pacer also provided much-needed breakthroughs initially with his canny inswingers.

“He was just brilliant. The white ball doesn’t swing that much, in the air or off the surface, but he has got that capability. And that is why it was very good captaincy from Rishabh Pant to give him that third over in which he got a wicket as well. Because after that the ball wouldn’t have moved that much as well and Bhuvneshwar would have been ineffective,”  Gavaskar said.

The renowned commentator added that the surfaces in Australia will assist Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s skill set and it will be a huge plus for the Indians if they pick him for the World Cup 2022.

“To have someone like him in Australia, where there will that little bit of more carry and bounce, I think that will be a huge plus,” he added.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is set to be played in Australia starting October 16, 2022. Team India will play out its first match against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 in the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

India look to win 3rd T20I against South Africa:

Meanwhile, team India has currently lost both its opening T20I fixtures against South Africa. The visitors thrashed India by seven wickets in the first match in Delhi while a four-wicket commanding victory in the second fixture in Cuttack has put the visitors in the driver’s seat.

The Men in Blue are now in a do-or-die situation where one more loss would result in a series defeat. The third match of the five-match series is set to be played on 14th June, Tuesday in Vishakhapatnam.

Notably, Rishabh Pant hasn’t endured a dream start to his national captaincy career. He has faced two defeats in his first two matches, however, he would look to make a comeback and return with a victory.
